SCENIC VIEWS & RECREATION

Tioga County was formed on March 26, 1804. The name Tioga came from a Native American word meaning "forks of a stream" in honor of the Tioga River.

Scenic beauty is easy to find. The Pine Creek Gorge, commonly referred to as the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon, is surrounded by approximately 165,000 acres of the Tioga State Forest. Eight lakes and numerous hiking and biking trails, including the Pine Creek Rail Trail, are all calling your name.

Efforts are also underway for the Marsh Creek Trailway to be able to connect through Wellsboro, PA. Wellsboro, the county seat of Tioga County is a quaint town with village street lights.

Wellsboro and other nearby Tioga County towns are eager to welcome guests and residents alike for many events throughout the year. Dickens of a Christmas, the Laurel Festival, and the Tioga County Fair, are just a few of the events that will entertain you and your family.
